The Sheep Detectives: parents' guide
Best for ages 8 and up. Rated PG for thematic material, some violent content and brief language.
A cozy-looking but surprisingly sad family mystery for kids about 8 and up. A flock of sheep sets out to solve the murder of their beloved shepherd, who is poisoned and dies in the opening scenes. Later, guard dogs maul a ram to death in a night attack, and a flashback shows him being forced to fight dogs. There is little blood and almost no bad language, but grief and loss run through the whole film. Sensitive younger kids and animal lovers may be upset by the deaths, so be ready to talk them through afterward.
