Making It: parents' guide
Best for ages 7 and up. Rated TV-PG.
A warm, low-stakes crafting competition that suits the whole family. Hosts Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman cheer on makers who build, sew and paint their way through themed challenges in a barn, and the judging is gentle. Expect pun-heavy jokes with a few mild double meanings, a rare misuse of God's name, and wine shared on the porch. Some contestants tell emotional stories, including one about being rejected by family after coming out. Nothing here is a real concern; about 7 and up, mostly because younger kids may drift.
What's in it
Violence
NoneNone. One maker leaves each week, and the exits are handled kindly.
Language
MildVery little. Plugged In heard one misuse of God's name plus words like dang and shoot in the premiere; Common Sense reported no profanity at all.
Sex and nudity
MildLight innuendo from the hosts, such as Poehler teasing Offerman during a blindfolded smell test where he works over a block of wood. Same-sex relationships are discussed openly. Nothing sexual is shown.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
MildAdults occasionally share a glass of wine on the barn porch between challenges. No drunkenness, smoking or drug use is shown.
Scary or intense scenes
NoneNothing scary. A few contestants get teary describing personal struggles, such as family rejection, which may prompt questions from kids.
Worth talking about
The show treats a job well done as the real prize, more than the money. Ask which craft your kids would want to try first.
