Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl: parents' guide

6+our pick

Best for ages 6 and up. Rated PG for some action and rude humor.

A clever, cozy stop-motion caper the whole family can enjoy, in which Wallace's new garden-gnome robot is hijacked by the scheming penguin Feathers McGraw. The action is slapstick: chases, crashes, a big finale, and an army of evil gnomes that some small children may find creepy. Feathers is a silent but menacing villain. Language is limited to British exclamations, there's an interrupted almost-kiss, and no drinking. The creepy gnomes and villain are why we suggest 6, though braver younger kids may be fine with a parent beside them.

What's in it

Violence

Mild

Slapstick throughout: falls, crashes, a motorcycle bursting through a fence, gnomes punched and flattened, a penguin slapping someone, and one explosion. A gardening robot nearly clips Gromit's toes. No one is really hurt.

Language

None

No profanity. Mild British exclamations such as 'flipping heck,' 'good grief' and 'what the dickens,' plus a 'butt' joke and someone called a wrong-un.

Sex and nudity

Mild

Wallace's clay backside is briefly glimpsed when a gadget shoots him through a tube into the bath, and a would-be kiss between two characters gets cut short. No other romance or nudity.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

None

No drinking, smoking or drugs.

Scary or intense scenes

Mild

Feathers McGraw's quiet menace and the hijacked gnomes, which march in eerie unison, may unsettle preschoolers. The chase peril near the end is fast but played for comedy.

Worth talking about

Wallace trusts his gadgets more than the people and dog around him. When does technology make life better, and when does it get in the way of relationships?
