Jujutsu Kaisen 0: parents' guide
Best for ages 14 and up. Rated PG-13 for violent content, bloody images, language, thematic material and some suggestive references.
A dark, gory anime horror film for teens, and a prequel that works on its own. A bullied, suicidal teen is haunted by the cursed spirit of his childhood sweetheart, who was killed by a car when they were small, and he joins a school for sorcerers who battle monstrous curses. The fights are bloody: a sword through an eye, a face pulled apart, impalings and a severed arm. The hero talks repeatedly about wanting to die, there are a few s-words, and the crude jokes include one about breast size. Age 14 for the gore, the horror and the suicide talk.
What's in it
Violence
StrongFrequent bloody fights with swords and curses: a blade through an eyeball, a face ripped apart, impalings, a severed arm and pools of blood. Bullies are crushed into lockers, and a curse clings to a teen girl who says it gives her nightmares of being raped.
Language
ModerateFour s-words, about eight "damn," two "goddamn," and single uses of "hell," "bastard," "piss" and "crap," plus Jesus' name misused once and insults like "idiot" and "moron."
Sex and nudity
MildTwo children promise to marry. A talking panda asks the hero which breast size he prefers as a joke, a short training skirt nearly shows underwear, and a curse wraps itself suggestively around a teen girl, who later mentions rape nightmares.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
NoneNo drinking or drug use. Empty liquor bottles sit in an alley, and one character takes throat medicine to soothe pain from his powers.
Scary or intense scenes
StrongGrotesque, hulking curses, including the monstrous spirit of a dead little girl and a creature wearing a necklace of human heads, plus kidnapped children in danger and a villain planning mass murder. Long, intense horror sequences.

Worth talking about
Yuta believes he should die because his curse hurts people, and his new friends slowly give him reasons to live. What changes his mind, and who could a teen in his place turn to?
