A Quiet Place Part II: parents' guide
Best for ages 13 and up. Rated PG-13 for terror, violence and bloody/disturbing images.
A tense, well-made creature thriller for teens, picking up right after the first film. The surviving family leaves home to look for other people while sound-hunting monsters still roam, and an opening flashback shows the day the invasion began. There is no sexual content and barely any swearing, but the peril is nearly constant: a boy's foot is mangled in a bear trap, a baby and child nearly suffocate in a sealed room, and people are snatched and killed. We suggest 13, the same as the first film, for sustained terror and bloody moments.
What's in it
Violence
ModerateCreatures slash, drag and kill people, often with a cutaway before the blow. A boy's ankle is crushed in a bear trap in a bloody, screaming scene. Humans choke and beat each other, and monsters are shot and left in gore.
Language
MildVery sparse: one s-word, a "damn" and a "hell," plus single uses of "oh my God" and Jesus' name. Much of the dialogue is in sign language.
Sex and nudity
NoneNo romance, sexual content or nudity.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
NoneNo one drinks or uses drugs; a bottle of vodka is used only to clean a wound, and a mother searches for medicine to prevent infection.
Scary or intense scenes
StrongUnrelenting suspense with jump scares and children in danger throughout, including a baby and a boy trapped in an airtight furnace room. Glimpses of decomposing bodies, and a gang of desperate survivors who seem ready to hurt two of the heroes.
Worth talking about
Emmett has given up on helping others after losing his family, while Regan insists on trying. Ask your teen what it takes to keep hoping, and helping, when things look bleak.
