Culinary Class Wars: parents' guide
Best for ages 15 and up. Rated TV-MA.
A high-stakes Korean cooking contest that older teens who love food shows can enjoy, despite the TV-MA rating. A hundred chefs, split into famous White Spoons and unknown Black Spoons, battle through blind tastings and team challenges in front of two demanding judges. There's no violence, sex or drug content. The rating comes from language: Common Sense reports f-words and s-words throughout the subtitles and English dub, and UK classifiers list language as the only issue. Because the swearing is frequent, it suits about 15 and up.
What's in it
Violence
NoneNo violence. Some contestants make cutting or punching gestures while trash-talking, and knives are everywhere, but nothing physical happens.
Language
StrongCommon Sense reports frequent strong profanity, including f-words and s-words, in both the subtitles and the dub. UK classifiers listed language as the only issue.
Sex and nudity
NoneNo sexual content, romance or nudity.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
MildAlcohol and fermented drinks appear as ingredients or are served with dishes. No drunkenness, smoking or drug use.
Scary or intense scenes
NoneNothing scary. Elimination pressure is intense and some chefs are visibly crushed, but the judges stay respectful.
Worth talking about
The show opens by splitting chefs into the famous and the unknown. Talk about whether status or skill wins out, and how blind tasting changes the judging.
