Vampirina: parents' guide
Best for ages 4 and up. Rated TV-Y.
A sweet, lightly spooky preschool series that works as a gentle first taste of Halloween-style characters. Vampirina, a young vampire, moves with her family from Transylvania to Pennsylvania, where they run a bed and breakfast for monsters and try to keep their true nature secret from human neighbors. Ghosts, gargoyles and goblins are all friendly, and the stories focus on fitting in, honesty and being proud of what makes you different. There is no violence, bad language or romance. Age 4 reflects the monster designs, which a few young viewers find unsettling, rather than any real scares.
