Bluey: parents' guide

3+our pick

Best for ages 3 and up. Rated TV-Y.

A warm, funny preschool series that parents genuinely enjoy watching alongside their kids. Short episodes center on imaginative play between two puppy sisters and their involved parents, with no violence, profanity or scary moments beyond make-believe peril. A few episodes touch on bigger feelings: in one, an injured bird dies at the vet, and others deal with a family move or a grandparent's health scare, all handled gently. Expect some mild toilet humor, and some parents notice kids copying the sisters' cheekiness. It's a lovely pick from about age 3.

What's in it

Violence

None

None beyond pretend play, such as escaping make-believe crocodiles or kids playing lions who pounce on a neighbor. No one gets hurt.

Language

None

No profanity at all. Expect mild toilet humor, such as a stinky diaper joke, plus eye-rolling and the occasional rude interruption.

Sex and nudity

None

Nothing beyond a kiss at a wedding in one extended episode. A classmate casually mentions his two moms.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

Mild

No one is shown drinking heavily or using drugs. A couple of grown-up jokes in the wedding episode, such as a guest waking up in the bushes after the party, will go over kids' heads.

Scary or intense scenes

Mild

Very gentle. One episode shows a wounded bird that dies at the vet, which Bluey then works through in play, and the wedding special centers on worry about moving house.
