The Fall Guy: parents' guide
Best for ages 13 and up. Rated PG-13 for action and violence, drug content and some strong language.
A big, playful action comedy that suits teens and parents who like stunt-driven blockbusters. A stuntman hunting for a missing movie star gets pulled into a murder cover-up, which brings near-constant fights, chases, explosions and gunfire, mostly bloodless but with some beatings and a body found on ice. Language includes about 30 s-words and two f-words. The hero is slipped a drug and hallucinates for laughs, and the missing star's partying and drug use drive the plot. Romance stays at flirting and kissing. The drug content and steady language are why we suggest 13.
What's in it
Violence
ModerateNear-constant stunt action: fistfights, sword and gun fights, car flips, explosions and people set on fire. Some blood from beatings, a man is stabbed in the thigh with a pen, and a boat explosion seemingly kills its driver.
Language
ModeratePlugged In and Movieguide each counted two f-words (one hard to hear) and Plugged In nearly 30 s-words, plus 'ass,' 'bitch,' 'dick,' frequent misuse of God's and Jesus' names, and several middle-finger gestures.
Sex and nudity
MildFlirting, a dating montage and kissing in flashbacks, shirtless men, and a few suggestive jokes about beach nights and an alien's love life. A corpse is partly undressed under ice, with nothing explicit seen.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
ModerateColt drinks a spiked Shirley Temple and hallucinates unicorns, played for comedy. The missing star's heavy partying and drug use are central, with drugs visible at a party. Crew members drink shots and get tipsy at karaoke.
Scary or intense scenes
ModerateTense chases and shootouts, a hostage tied up and beaten, a bloodied stuntman wheeled through a hospital in flashback, and a dead body discovered packed in ice in a hotel bathroom. The comic tone softens most of it.
Worth talking about
Colt hides after his accident instead of telling Jody how hurt he is. Why is it hard to admit when we're struggling, and what does that silence cost a relationship?
