The Traitors (US): parents' guide
Best for ages 12 and up. Rated TV-14.
A sly, mostly clean reality game that works for tweens and up who enjoy a murder-mystery puzzle without real danger. Contestants, mostly reality-TV stars and other celebrities, live in a Scottish castle while secret Traitors pick off Faithful players, who are 'murdered' only in the sense of being removed from the game. The main things to know are f-words that are bleeped or only mouthed, milder audible swearing, wine and liquor at dinners, and a game that rewards lying and manipulation. The celebrity seasons are rated TV-14 and the all-civilian 2026 New Blood season TV-PG; about 12 and up fits.
What's in it
Violence
NoneNo physical violence. 'Murder' is a game term: Traitors pick a player, who simply fails to show up at breakfast the next morning. Some missions involve fire or physical stunts, but no one is hurt.
Language
MildMilder words like 'asshole' are heard, while f-words are bleeped or only mouthed. Arguments at the round table can get heated, and an occasional rude gesture slips through.
Sex and nudity
NoneNo sexual content or nudity is noted by reviewers. The game centers on strategy, alliances and suspicion rather than romance.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
MildWine, champagne and hard liquor appear at dinners and gatherings in the castle. Reviewers note no drunkenness, drug use or smoking.
Scary or intense scenes
MildThe castle is staged like a gothic thriller, with cloaked Traitors meeting by candlelight and players anxiously waiting to learn who was 'murdered.' Suspenseful and theatrical, but not truly scary.
Worth talking about
The winners are often the best liars. Talk about the difference between deception inside a game everyone agreed to and lying in real friendships.
