Air: parents' guide
Best for ages 15 and up. Rated R for language throughout.
A smart, crowd-pleasing business drama about how Nike signed a young Michael Jordan, fine for teens about 15 and up. The R is almost entirely for language: Plugged In counted at least 65 f-words, and the swearing rarely lets up. Otherwise it is clean, with no violence beyond closing headlines about a later killing, nothing sexual beyond a crude threat and an STD joke, and only social drinking. One character gambles heavily in Las Vegas. Younger kids would likely be bored by all the boardroom talk anyway.
What's in it
Violence
NoneNo violence on screen, only arguing and shouting. Brief real headlines near the end mention that Jordan's father was later shot.
Language
StrongConstant: Plugged In counted at least 65 f-words and 16 s-words, plus 'a--hole,' 'damn,' 'piss' and several misuses of God's and Jesus' names.
Sex and nudity
MildNo sexual scenes. An agent makes a crude sexual threat, there is a joke about STDs, adult magazines sit wrapped on a store shelf, and closing headlines mention infidelity.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
MildAdults drink beer and cocktails at a bar and a restaurant, with brief incidental smoking and no drugs. One character gambles heavily at craps tables in Las Vegas.
Scary or intense scenes
NoneNothing frightening. The tension is all about deals, deadlines and whether a sales pitch will land.
Worth talking about
Sonny bets his career on a hunch and goes around the rules to get a meeting. Ask your teen when taking a big risk is worth it, and when it is just reckless.
