Toy Story of Terror!: parents' guide
Best for ages 6 and up. Rated TV-G.
A clever, mildly scary Halloween special for kids who already love Toy Story, running about 22 minutes. On a road trip, Bonnie and her mom stop for the night at a creepy roadside motel, and the toys start vanishing one by one, horror-movie style, while Mr. Pricklepants points out the genre's clichés. The culprit is more ordinary than it first seems, and the scares give way to a rescue mission. Expect jump scares, toys snatched in the dark and Jessie facing her fear of being shut in a box, but no bad language. Age 6 fits most kids; sensitive viewers may find the startle moments too much.
What's in it
Violence
MildCartoon peril only: toys tumble, get grabbed and dragged off in the dark, and some turn up with detached or missing parts. A scary movie playing on a TV shows a vampire chasing a woman. Nothing is gory and nobody is truly hurt.
Language
NoneNo profanity. The closest it gets is mild put-downs, such as Mr. Potato Head telling a friend to shut his worry hole.
Sex and nudity
NoneNothing romantic or suggestive happens; the story sticks to the toys' rescue mission.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
NoneNo drinking, smoking or drug references.
Scary or intense scenes
ModerateBuilt like a horror movie: a dark motel at night, toys disappearing one at a time, something lunging from the shadows and several deliberate jump scares. Jessie panics when trapped in a box, though the tension resolves quickly.
