Muppets Haunted Mansion: parents' guide
Best for ages 7 and up. Rated TV-PG.
A silly, spooky Muppet special that suits kids who like haunted-house fun and can handle ghosts and skeletons. Gonzo and Pepe spend Halloween night in a mansion full of 999 ghosts, where Gonzo must face his fears and Pepe is nearly married off to a ghost bride with a history of beheading her grooms. Jokes and songs soften the scares, though a face morphing into a frightening one and a screaming goat may rattle younger kids. There's no profanity and only light flirting. Age 7 reflects the ghostly imagery and occult touches like a séance.
What's in it
Violence
MildCartoonish. The ghost bride killed her past husbands, an axe is shown, and their ghosts describe their fates. A food cart slams into Gonzo and Pepe, a character drops into a giant mouth unharmed, and a ghost's head reappears in a hatbox.
Language
NoneNo profanity. Reviewers noted at most a single 'heck' in the entire 50-minute special.
Sex and nudity
MildPepe brags about being a ladies' man and texting his girlfriends, nearly marries a ghost who means to 'love him to death,' and a portrait shows a character in comic boxers. Kermit and Piggy swap costumes.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
MildGhosts carry wine glasses at a party, Pepe asks for champagne cocktails, and he falls under a spell after eating enchanted ghostly grapes. No smoking or drugs.
Scary or intense scenes
MildDark hallways, gravestones, skeletons and mummies throughout, a séance, a room marked '666' with horned Muppets and fiery effects, a human face that morphs into a scary one, and a screaming goat. The tone stays comic.
