Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit: parents' guide

6+our pick

Best for ages 6 and up. Rated G.

A clever, gently spooky claymation comedy the whole family can share, with plenty of jokes for adults that sail over kids' heads. Inventor Wallace and his silent dog Gromit run a humane pest-control business until a giant rabbit starts ravaging the town's prize vegetables before a big contest. Expect a monster-movie transformation, a hunter firing guns, and an angry mob with pitchforks, all played for laughs with nobody really hurt. Cheeky British innuendo and a couple of bare-bottom gags are mild. Age 6 reflects the were-rabbit's scarier moments, which can startle preschoolers.

What's in it

Violence

Mild

Cartoon slapstick: Victor fires guns at rabbits and the beast and misses, throws an axe, and gets clobbered with a giant carrot. A mousetrap snaps Wallace's fingers, a mob chases the creature, and a toy plane crashes in flames.

Language

Mild

Very mild British slang: a pun on 'arsing around,' 'where the devil are you,' and 'flippin'.' No other profanity.

Sex and nudity

Mild

Cheeky innuendo aimed at adults, such as Lady Tottington holding melons in front of her chest and a decoy rabbit's burlesque-style dance. Victor's backside flashes briefly, and Wallace ends up naked, covering himself with a box.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

Mild

Characters drink at a party, and there's a joke about the vicar having too much communion wine. No drugs or smoking.

Scary or intense scenes

Mild

The were-rabbit's transformation is shown first in shadow, then in full, with spooky music and dark nights. A hunter stalks the beast with a gun and a mob gives chase. The peril is comic, but the youngest viewers may be startled.
