The Repair Shop: parents' guide
Best for ages 6 and up. Rated TV-PG.
A soothing British reality series in which craftspeople restore cherished family heirlooms, a good pick for the whole family. Owners bring in broken clocks, toys, furniture and keepsakes, and the experts show how they fix them before a heartfelt reveal. There is no violence, swearing, sex or drinking. The only thing to know is the emotion: many items belonged to relatives who have died, some carry wartime stories, and owners often cry at the end. Little ones may find it slow, but nothing in it is unsuitable. Age 6 reflects the occasional talk of death and loss.
What's in it
Violence
NoneNone. Saws, blowtorches and chisels are used carefully in the workshop, and the only struggle is with a stubborn repair.
Language
NoneNo swearing is reported. Conversation is polite workshop chatter, explanations of techniques and owners' stories about their families.
Sex and nudity
NoneNo romantic or sexual content. The closest it gets is owners fondly remembering late spouses, parents and grandparents.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
NoneNo drinking, drugs or smoking are reported in reviews of the series; the focus stays on the workshop and the owners.
Scary or intense scenes
MildNot scary, but emotional. Many heirlooms belonged to loved ones who have died, some stories involve illness or war, and owners often tear up when they see the restored piece.
