The Naked Gun (2025): parents' guide

13+our pick

Best for ages 13 and up. Rated PG-13 for crude/sexual material, violence/bloody images and brief partial nudity.

A silly, joke-a-second spoof that works for young teens who like slapstick and can shrug off crude humor. Liam Neeson plays the son of Leslie Nielsen's bumbling detective, chasing a tech billionaire with a doomsday gadget. The violence is cartoonish but includes a man beheaded by a ceiling fan with a spray of blood, and the sex jokes outnumber the swear words: infrared footage that looks like sex, an implied threesome with a snowman, an ejaculation joke, and a man's bare backside with a blurred glimpse of his genitals. Language runs to a few s-words. The crude sexual material is why we suggest 13 rather than younger.

What's in it

Violence

Moderate

Slapstick mayhem played for laughs: gunfights, punches, groin hits, a hero who rips a man's arms off and beats him with them, a gun-wielding snowman, and a man accidentally beheaded by a ceiling fan with a small spray of blood. Nothing feels real.

Language

Moderate

A few s-words (one count found three), plus ass, hell, whore and a misuse of God's name. A song lyric uses 'retarded,' and characters then note the word is no longer acceptable. Plenty of fart and poop jokes.

Sex and nudity

Moderate

Infrared footage seems to show a couple having sex with each other and with a dog before an innocent reveal; an implied threesome with a snowman; an ejaculation joke; a hot tub scene; and a man's bare rear with a blurred glimpse of his genitals.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

Moderate

In one gag, a distracted bartender hands out free beer to kids and ends up drinking with them. Adults drink at a club and share hard liquor, a rich villain smokes a cigar, and an empty pill bottle turns up at a crash scene.

Scary or intense scenes

Mild

Peril is never believable. Robbers fire guns in a bank, a snowman brought to life by a spell chases the couple with a gun, and a device briefly turns people into raging brutes, but the jokes keep it light.

Worth talking about

Spoofs exaggerate the clichés of cop and action movies. Which ones did you recognize, and why does pushing them to extremes make them funny?
