The Lost City: parents' guide
Best for ages 13 and up. Rated PG-13 for violence and some bloody images, suggestive material, partial nudity and language.
A breezy PG-13 action comedy best for kids 13 and up who can handle crude humor and some partial nudity. A reclusive romance novelist is kidnapped by a billionaire hunting for treasure, and her cover model sets off into the jungle to rescue her. Most of the action is slapstick, but one sudden shooting is surprisingly gory, and there is gunfire, peril and characters falling to their likely deaths. Expect a long comic scene of the hero's bare backside with jokes about his anatomy, innuendo from her steamy novels, two s-words and plenty of drinking.
What's in it
Violence
ModerateMostly slapstick punches, kicks and knockouts, with villains firing guns that usually miss. One sudden head shot sprays blood and brain matter across another character's face, a man's clothes are set on fire, and people fall to their likely deaths.
Language
ModerateTwo s-words by one count, plus 'ass,' 'a-hole,' 'crap' and 'hell,' about 15 misuses of God's name, and 'slut' used jokingly between friends.
Sex and nudity
ModerateNo sex. A long comic scene shows the hero's bare backside in close-up while leeches are pulled off, followed by extended jokes about his anatomy. Expect innuendo from her romance novels, cleavage, shirtless scenes and a couple of kisses.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
ModerateAdults drink wine, whiskey, tequila and champagne throughout, one young woman seems to have had too much, and the villain smokes cigars. There is one passing reference to cocaine, but no drug use is shown.
Scary or intense scenes
ModerateFrequent peril: a kidnapping, gunfire, near-drownings, a fire, a tomb of skeletons where the heroes are nearly sealed in, and an erupting volcano. The sudden gory shooting may shock younger viewers.
