Spookley the Square Pumpkin: parents' guide

4+our pick

Best for ages 4 and up. Rated G.

A sweet, short animated Halloween tale about acceptance, fine for preschoolers. Spookley is a square pumpkin teased by the round ones, especially a bully named Little Tom, who insists he doesn't belong in the patch. When a fierce storm sends the round pumpkins rolling away and pins the friendly scarecrow under a burning branch, Spookley's shape lets him save everyone. There's no bad language beyond name-calling and nothing romantic. The storm and the early teasing are the only things likely to bother small children, which is why we suggest 4.

What's in it

Violence

Mild

Mild cartoon peril: wind and rain toss the pumpkins around, some roll toward a river, and the scarecrow is trapped near a small fire until Spookley rescues him. No one is hurt.

No profanity. The other pumpkins call Spookley names like 'loser' and say he isn't a real pumpkin.

Sex and nudity

None

No romance or sexual content at all.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

None

No drinking, smoking or drug use.

Scary or intense scenes
