Mickey and Friends Trick or Treats: parents' guide
Best for ages 6 and up. Rated TV-Y7.
A short stop-motion Halloween special that is noticeably spookier than everyday Mickey cartoons. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy go trick-or-treating and are drawn to the creepiest mansion on the block, where Witch Hazel casts a spell that turns each of them into a real version of their costume. They have until midnight to undo it. Expect a graveyard, a roaring door knocker, a bubbling cauldron and plenty of cackling, but no injuries or bad language. It carries a TV-Y7 rating, and age 6 reflects the darker look; it ends warmly, with a message about kindness and friendship.
What's in it
Violence
MildNo real violence. Witch Hazel's spell and tricks cause the trouble, and one of her songs jokes about boiling a neighbor in oil, but nobody is hurt.
Language
NoneNo swearing or crude words turned up in any source.
Sex and nudity
NoneNothing romantic beyond the familiar Mickey-and-Minnie pairing.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
NoneNo drinking or smoking. A witch's brew bubbles in a cauldron, but it is magic, not alcohol.
Scary or intense scenes
ModerateDarker than usual for Mickey. Expect a bony hand reaching up out of a cemetery, a knocker that snarls at the friends, loud noises, a cackling witch stirring her pot, and the gang changed into creatures such as a spider and a three-eyed monster, racing to change back by midnight.
