Furious 7: parents' guide
Best for ages 13 and up. Rated PG-13 for prolonged frenetic sequences of violence, action and mayhem, suggestive content and brief strong language.
A loud, stunt-packed action sequel for teens who love car chases, with a bittersweet ending that honors the late Paul Walker. Violence is nonstop but mostly bloodless: brawls, shootouts, explosions, cars dropped from a plane and launched between skyscrapers, and a handful of deaths. Expect about 15 s-words and one muffled f-word, plus a camera that lingers on women in thong bikinis, with partial rear nudity. Drinking is casual. The heroes face few consequences for the destruction they cause, which is worth pointing out. We suggest 13 and up for the language and the leering.
What's in it
Violence
ModerateConstant fistfights, martial arts, gunfire, missiles, explosions and crashes, with several characters killed and bodies left behind after a villain's rampage. Injuries are shrugged off and blood is minimal, but the brawls look painful.
Language
ModerateOne partly muffled f-word and close to 15 s-words, plus "ass," "bitch," "bastard," "son of a bitch" and "hell," and five or six uses of "God" paired with "damn."
Sex and nudity
ModerateNo sex scenes, but in four or five scenes the camera lingers on women in thong bikinis and skimpy outfits, showing bare buttocks and cleavage. Two men ogle a woman in a bikini and talk about wanting her, couples kiss, and there is crude innuendo.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
MildBeer, champagne and hard liquor at parties and races, Dom shares a beer with a government agent and discusses favorite brands, and Hobbs takes prescription painkillers after an injury.
Scary or intense scenes
MildPeril comes from stunts rather than scares: cars dangling over cliffs and teetering in towers, a house blown apart, and a funeral for a team member. The closing tribute to Paul Walker may stir emotions.
Worth talking about
The crew treats speeding, breaking laws and wrecking cities as heroic. How would those choices play out for real people, and why does the movie leave that out?
