Chainsaw Man: parents' guide
Best for ages 17 and up. Rated TV-MA.
A gory, foul-mouthed horror-action series for older teens and adults. A destitute 16-year-old working off his dead father's debt to the yakuza is killed, revived with chainsaw powers, and recruited to hunt devils. Nearly every episode features dismemberment, decapitation and gushing blood, f-words are frequent, and the plot leans on the teen hero's sexual fixation, including a scene where a drunk adult coworker kisses and propositions him. Smoking, heavy drinking and underage drinking appear, and major characters die suddenly. This covers the first season; the 2025 Reze Arc film is separate.
What's in it
Violence
StrongExtremely graphic and constant: people and devils are sliced apart, beheaded and disemboweled, a teen is hacked up and dumped in a trash bin in the first episode, zombies are massacred, and a surprise gun attack kills several main characters.
Language
StrongStrong language throughout, with frequent f-words and s-words plus "asshole," "ass" and crude slang for breasts.
Sex and nudity
ModerateDenji's main goal is touching a girl's breasts, and a companion lets him grope her. A drunk adult coworker kisses the 16-year-old and later propositions him. His boss uses flirtation to control him. Brief partial nudity, including a bare backside.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
ModerateSeveral adults smoke constantly. At a work party 16-year-old Denji drinks, and a coworker gets so drunk she vomits into his mouth during a kiss. A veteran hunter is rarely without a drink.
Scary or intense scenes
StrongGrotesque devils, body horror and sudden brutal deaths keep it intense throughout. A flashback shows a boy's mother and little brother killed in a devil attack, and Denji's father is said to have taken his own life.

Worth talking about
Denji has been so deprived that his dreams are bread with jam and a girlfriend. How do the adults around him take advantage of that?
