Avengers: Infinity War: parents' guide
Best for ages 13 and up. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, language and some crude references.
A huge, dark chapter of the Avengers saga that's best for kids already invested in the series and old enough for a gut-punch ending. The villain tortures and kills his way across the galaxy, several beloved heroes die, one at the hands of a parent figure, and the story ends on a bleak cliffhanger in which a frightened teenage hero is among many who vanish. Violence is mostly bloodless but includes impalings and a crushed throat. Language includes four s-words and two cut-off f-words. There is no drinking. The intensity and the ending point to 13.
What's in it
Violence
ModerateHuge battles plus stabbings and impalings with blades through bodies, a crushed throat, an arm severed by a force field, and torture with glass needles. A flashback shows soldiers executing half a planet's people. Blood is used sparingly.
Language
ModerateFour s-words, two unfinished f-words ("chill the F out" and a cut-off "motherf"), plus ass, asshole, bastard, dickhole, douchebag and nut sack. God's name is misused about ten times, and there's one crude gesture.
Sex and nudity
MildCouples kiss and say they love each other, and a hero couple hiding out in Scotland is seen together in a hotel room, with nothing sexual shown. Crude jokes compare the villain's chin to male anatomy and ask if a grenade will blow off someone's "junk."
Drinking, drugs and smoking
NoneNone. No one is shown drinking, smoking or using drugs at any point, and alcohol plays no part in the story.
Scary or intense scenes
ModerateA relentless villain, the torture of heroes and of the villain's own adopted daughter, and the deaths of well-loved characters. The ending, with heroes including a scared teenager fading into dust, can devastate younger fans.
Sensitive topics
- Death of a child
Worth talking about
Thanos sincerely believes his plan will save the universe. Can good intentions ever justify hurting people?
