Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour: parents' guide
Best for ages 12 and up. Rated PG-13 for some strong language and suggestive material.
A nearly three-hour concert film that plays like a giant family sing-along for Swift fans, with no story, peril or real violence. The main issue is language in the lyrics: one guide counted four f-words and about a dozen s-words, and the crowd shouts a "bitch" chant during one song. Costumes and choreography get suggestive in places, especially a chair routine, and lyrics touch on romance, getting drunk and someone doing lines. Most tweens who know the songs have heard all of it already, but the f-words make 12 a sensible floor with a parent.
What's in it
Violence
MildNo real violence. The staging includes some mock destruction, such as dancers swinging golf clubs at a projected car during "Blank Space," and a few lyrics describe heartbreak or revenge in violent terms. Nobody is hurt.
Language
ModerateAll of it comes through lyrics: one guide counted four f-words (in songs including "All Too Well," "Champagne Problems" and "Betty"), about a dozen s-words, several uses of "damn" and "goddamn," and a crowd-chanted "bitch" in "Delicate."
Sex and nudity
MildRevealing costumes and some suggestive dancing, most pointedly a chair routine in "Vigilante S---." Swift plays up flirtation with a male dancer in an open shirt, and many lyrics allude to romance and waking up together. No nudity.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
ModerateNothing is consumed on screen beyond Swift pouring wine as a stage prop in "Tolerate It." Lyrics mention champagne, shots and being drunk, one line describes someone doing lines, and "Don't Blame Me" uses drug addiction as a metaphor for love.
Scary or intense scenes
NoneNothing scary. Loud music, pyrotechnics and a roaring crowd are the most intense elements, and witchy stagings like "Willow" are theatrical. The UK classifier warns of flashing images that could affect viewers with photosensitive epilepsy.
Worth talking about
Many of Swift's songs are about getting even with people who hurt her. Is writing about pain a healthy way to work through it, and when does it tip into payback?
