Frieren: Beyond Journey's End: parents' guide
Best for ages 13 and up. Rated TV-14.
A slow, gentle fantasy about time, memory and friendship that suits thoughtful young teens more than action fans. An elf mage who outlived her old adventuring party sets out again with two young companions, and much of the show is quiet travel and reflection. Fights with demons can turn bloody, and one demon is magically ordered to behead herself. A flashback shows an orphaned girl about to throw herself into a ravine before a priest saves her. Social drinking and a few skirt and chest jokes round it out. Age 13 follows the TV-14 rating, the suicide content and the steady theme of grief rather than the calm overall mood.
What's in it
Violence
ModerateSword and spell battles with demons and monsters. Slain monsters often crumble to dust, but several fights bring spurting blood and severed limbs, rival mages slash each other in an exam, and pleading demons are beheaded. A captured demon is forced to behead herself.
Language
MildSwearing is infrequent: scattered 'damn,' 'hell,' 'ass,' 'crap,' 'piss' and 'bastard,' a few uses of 'bitch' and a rare s-word, depending on dub or subtitles. Most of the bite comes from dry teasing between travelers.
Sex and nudity
MildNo romance beyond shy, awkward hints between the two young companions. Gags include a boy flipping up a woman's skirt with nothing shown, a mage wondering why her apprentice's chest is bigger than hers, and a few passing quips.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
ModerateCharacters drink at festivals and inns. A priest from the old party is a heavy drinker, shown flushed with a bottle and complaining of hangovers for gentle comedy, and later says he has quit. A few adults smoke. No drugs.
Scary or intense scenes
ModerateHuman-looking demons who plead for their lives, skeletons, an army of puppeted corpses, and tense magic duels. Loss runs through the whole story: beloved companions age and die, and the heroine grieves the time she wasted with them.

- Suicide
