Spider-Man: No Way Home: parents' guide
Best for ages 12 and up. Rated PG-13 for sequences of action/violence, some language and brief suggestive comments.
A crowd-pleasing, multiverse-hopping Spider-Man adventure with a surprisingly heavy middle, best for tweens who are ready for real loss. Villains from other universes bring rough fights, especially the Green Goblin, whose brawl with Peter leaves him bloodied, and a parent figure dies in a sad scene that leaves blood on Peter's hands. Grief-stricken, Peter briefly tries to kill a villain. Language includes about four s-words, a cut-off f-word and one goddamn. Romance stays at kissing and an awkward talk about safe sex. We'd start around 12.
What's in it
Violence
ModerateExtended fights with a mechanical-armed villain, electric blasts and explosions, plus a savage brawl that smashes through an apartment building. Peter ends up bloodied, one Spider-Man is stabbed by the Goblin, police fire at Peter, and an important character dies after a vicious attack.
Language
ModerateAbout four s-words, around seven uses of ass, a handful of damn and hell, one goddamn, and roughly nine misuses of God's name. One "what the f" is cut off before the word is finished.
Sex and nudity
MildAunt May walks in on Peter in his boxers with MJ, wrongly assumes they're about to have sex, and tells them to be safe. Couples kiss, and a villain is described as naked but shown only from the chest up.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
ModerateOnly in a brief end-credits scene, where a character in a bar drinks and announces that he's drunk. No other drinking, smoking or drug use.
Scary or intense scenes
ModerateThe Green Goblin's split personality and cackling attacks are unsettling, there's a brief jump scare, and lives are often at stake. One death is drawn out and deeply sad, and Peter's grief and rage afterward are intense.
Sensitive topics
- Death of a parent
Worth talking about
Peter decides to try curing the villains rather than send them home to die. When is giving someone a second chance the right call, and what can it cost?
