Predator: Badlands: parents' guide
Best for ages 14 and up. Rated PG-13 for sequences of strong sci-fi violence.
A relentless sci-fi action film for teens who enjoy creature battles more than horror. A young alien hunter, cast out by his clan, teams up with a chatty android on a deadly planet. Almost no human blood is spilled, which is how it earned a PG-13, but the violence is nearly nonstop and gory in its own way: aliens and androids are sliced apart, beheaded and torn in half, and beasts are cut open. A father orders one son to kill the other, then kills that son himself. There's one s-word and no sex or substance use. The nonstop dismemberment makes it best for 14 and up.
What's in it
Violence
StrongNear-constant combat with blades, guns and claws. Alien hunters lose hands, arms and heads, spilling green-yellow blood; human-looking androids are shot, torn in half and crushed, leaking white fluid, one with her spine dangling. Beasts are sliced in two, and a father kills his son.
Language
ModerateA single s-word is the only profanity. An alien calls the android a 'tool,' but literally, not as an insult.
Sex and nudity
NoneNo romance, sexual content or nudity. The android wears snug clothing, and that's as far as it goes.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
NoneNo drinking, smoking or drug use.
Scary or intense scenes
ModerateAlien monsters attack throughout, the planet itself is hostile, and there are crashes, long falls, explosions and a lethal family duel. It plays as action tension rather than horror, but the creatures and dismemberment could rattle younger viewers.
Worth talking about
Dek's father treats mercy as weakness, while Dek survives by learning to rely on others. What does real strength look like, and who gets to define it?
