Jujutsu Kaisen: parents' guide

15+our pick

Best for ages 15 and up. Rated TV-MA.

A stylish but extremely gory supernatural action anime for older teens. A high schooler swallows a cursed finger, becomes host to a powerful demon, and joins a school of sorcerers who fight monstrous curses. Expect dismemberment, bodies twisted or blown apart, a teenage girl shot in the head, a fighter who stabs himself in the head, and mass civilian deaths in season 2's Shibuya arc. Season 3 (2026) adds a clan massacre in which a young woman kills her parents. An early arc follows a bullied teen whose mother is murdered. Language is moderate, a monster gropes a woman, and characters smoke. Best for 15 and up.

What's in it

Violence

Strong

Constant, graphic violence: limbs severed, people burst into blood, a woman's face blown apart, a teenage girl shot in the head, and a revived fighter stabbing himself in the head. Season 3 (2026) adds a family massacre in which a daughter cuts her mother's throat.

Language

Moderate

'Bulls--t' and other s-words, 'bastard,' 'damn,' 'hell' and 'tits' in subtitles and dub; one review counted four s-words in a compilation of later episodes. Season 1 is milder.

Sex and nudity

Moderate

Monsters grope a female fighter's chest, a man comments on a woman's breasts, and there are bikini images, a girl in a milky bath with nothing shown, and a man seen naked from behind.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

Moderate

Several characters smoke, and one has an ashtray overflowing with cigarette butts. No drinking or drug use is noted.

Scary or intense scenes

Strong

Grotesque curse spirits, people transformed into deformed creatures, and bloody body horror make it consistently disturbing. Beloved characters die, and the bleak Shibuya arc ends in mass destruction.

Sensitive topics

  • Suicide
  • Death of a child
  • Death of a parent
  • Bullying
  • School violence
  • Child abuse

Worth talking about

Characters argue over whether it's right to sacrifice a few people to protect many. Talk with your teen about when, if ever, that kind of trade-off can be justified.
