Ocean's Eleven: parents' guide

13+our pick

Best for ages 13 and up. Rated PG-13 for some language and sexual content.

A breezy, stylish heist caper that teens and parents can enjoy together. George Clooney leads a crew of charming thieves who plan to rob three Las Vegas casinos owned by a ruthless businessman. Nobody is seriously hurt: the action is fistfights, guards gassed unconscious, explosions and a faked medical emergency. Language is the main issue, with about 30 profanities including two f-words. Sexual content is brief: dancers in skimpy outfits, a quick lap dance and a flyer of a topless woman covering herself. Characters drink and one smokes cigars constantly. We suggest 13.

What's in it

Violence

Mild

Stylized and played for fun: a few fistfights, a beating that leaves bruises, two guards knocked out with gas, gunfire aimed at an empty vehicle, explosions and a man who fakes a heart attack. Nobody ends up badly hurt or dead.

Language

Moderate

Plugged In counted about 30 profanities, including two f-words, plus 's--t,' 'a--hole,' 'goddamn' and a middle finger. Two crew members stage a mock argument trading racial insults.

Sex and nudity

Mild

A single romantic kiss. Strippers in skimpy costumes are seen in wide shots, one gives a quick lap dance, and a flyer shows a topless woman with her hands over her breasts. No sex scenes or nudity.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

Moderate

Drinks are poured in bars, the casino and over dinner, but no one is shown drunk. One supporting player has a cigar in nearly every scene, and a lead smokes a cigarette briefly. No drugs.

Scary or intense scenes

Mild

Mostly playful suspense over whether the plan will work. The casino owner's muscle threatens the crew, and a staged collapse briefly looks like a real medical emergency.

Worth talking about

The movie makes thieves the heroes by making their target a villain. Does robbing a bad person make stealing OK?
