Crystal Lake: parents' guide
Best for ages 17 and up. Rated TV-MA.
A gory slasher prequel to Friday the 13th for adult horror fans; this covers all eight episodes released October 15, 2026. Pamela Voorhees's grief after her young son drowns turns murderous, and the killings, including a young girl's mother, are shown in grisly detail. Parents should also know about a teen sex scene watched by a child through a window, a woman's suicide after a stillbirth, a girl who burns herself and later takes LSD, secret medical experiments on children, bullying of a disabled boy, and several f-words in the premiere alone. That combination is why we say 17.
What's in it
Violence
StrongGraphic slasher kills across the season: a throat slit, a face sliced off with a machete down to bone, a girl's mother beaten and left to die in a deep fryer, corpses fed to a bear, and a father's skull crushed. No sexual violence.
Language
StrongTwo reviews of the premiere each heard several f-words (one counted four) and a dozen or more s-words, plus "bitch" and "ass," and one says every episode is full of swearing. Common Sense noted only a mouthed f-word.
Sex and nudity
ModerateTeen counselors make out and have sex in a shed while a little girl watches through the window; adults also have implied sex. Nudity is limited to bare backs and shoulders and two naked corpses. An explicit erotic passage is read aloud.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
StrongTeens drink and smoke, a young girl is given alcohol and drugs and later takes a large dose of LSD, a memorial turns into a drug-fueled gathering, and adults drink beer. Pamela is put on mood stabilizers.
Scary or intense scenes
StrongSustained horror: a child's drowning as he calls for his mother, jump scares, a corpse that seems to rise, a boy seizing and foaming at the mouth, and a hidden room of dead babies and children from medical experiments.

Worth talking about
The show asks whether grief and cruelty can turn someone into a monster. Talk about how the campers and counselors treat Jason, and what the adults around him failed to do.
