28 Years Later: The Bone Temple: parents' guide
Best for ages 17 and up. Rated R for strong bloody violence, gore, graphic nudity, language throughout, and brief drug use.
A savage, gory sequel for adults and very mature older teens, crueler than the film before it. Spike falls in with a cult of tracksuited killers led by a man who calls himself Satan's son, while a doctor tries to reach the human side of a powerful infected. Expect people skinned alive, a knife fight the boy is forced into that leaves a man bleeding to death, burnings and a crucifixion, plus full-frontal nudity, more than 50 f-words, and morphine and hallucinogen use. Heavy satanic imagery runs throughout. We suggest 17.
What's in it
Violence
StrongExtremely graphic: captives are tortured and skinned alive, a hook is driven into a skull, an infected tears out a man's head and spine and eats a brain, throats are slashed, a man bleeds to death from a cut artery, and people are burned.
Language
StrongPlugged In counted more than 60 f-words and Movieguide about 51, plus about a dozen s-words, a handful of c-words, 'bastard,' 'bitch,' 'prick' and misuses of God's and Jesus' names.
Sex and nudity
StrongNonsexual full-frontal male nudity, including the doctor undressing for bed, and a fully naked female infected. One character straddles another suggestively, and there is some sexual talk. No sex scenes.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
StrongA doctor sedates an infected with morphine darts, the infected seems to crave more, and the doctor sucks on a dart and passes out. He also blows a hallucinogenic powder into people's faces.
Scary or intense scenes
StrongRelentless cruelty: a cult tortures captives as offerings to the devil, a boy is forced to fight to the death, masks are made from human skin, the infected attack even small children, and a man is crucified upside down.
Worth talking about
Jimmy controls his followers through fear and twisted faith, while Kelson meets violence with curiosity and care. Ask your teen how people get pulled into groups like this, and what helps them break away.
