Another Round: parents' guide

15+our pick

Best for ages 15 and up. Not formally rated.

A bittersweet Danish drama for older teens and adults about four burned-out teachers who try staying a little drunk all day to see if it improves their lives. Drinking is constant, moving from giddy fun to blackouts, injuries, a marriage in trouble and a death that may or may not be intentional. There is a brief sex scene in a tent, f-words in the subtitles and teens drinking. It treats alcohol honestly rather than preachily, and its maturity is why we suggest 15.

What's in it

Violence

Mild

Little violence. Drunken falls cause a bloody nose and a bloody gash on the forehead, a glass is smashed during an argument, and a passing line refers to someone shooting themselves.

Language

Moderate

Subtitled profanity includes f-words, s-words, crap, piss and goddammit. One guide counted about five f-words and the UK board called the strong language infrequent, though another guide describes it as frequent.

Sex and nudity

Moderate

A married couple has brief, non-graphic sex in a tent, with no nudity shown. An affair is admitted, a drunk man strips to his underwear, another man is shirtless, and there is some kissing.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

Strong

Alcohol is the subject. The men drink at work and home, black out, get hurt and damage relationships, and one slides into alcoholism. Teens play drinking games, a student is given liquor before an exam, and someone takes pills.

Scary or intense scenes

Moderate

A main character drowns off-screen while drunk, and it is left unclear whether it was an accident or suicide. The funeral and his friends' grief are moving, and a marriage falling apart is painful to watch.

Sensitive topics

  • Addiction
  • Suicide

Worth talking about

Ask what the film suggests alcohol gives the teachers and what it takes away. Is the joyful ending a celebration, a warning, or both?
