All of Us Are Dead: parents' guide

16+our pick

Best for ages 16 and up. Rated TV-MA.

A gripping but very gory Korean zombie series in subtitles or dubbed, best for older teens. A virus breaks out at a high school, and students fight to survive while classmates are bitten, eaten and turned. Beyond the constant gore, the story is built on brutal bullying: a boy is beaten and pushed off a roof, and a girl is forced by classmates to take off her top on camera. Expect frequent f-words, a teen giving birth alone in a bathroom, suicidal moments, and the deaths of many students and some parents. The school setting may echo shootings for some viewers, so we suggest 16.

What's in it

Violence

Strong

Relentless gore: zombies rip into necks and faces, bodies contort as they turn, and students kill infected classmates. Bullies beat a boy, stomp his face and push him off a roof. Sexual violence: boys force a girl to remove her top while filming her.

Language

Strong

Frequent f-words and s-words in the subtitles and dub, at least 13 f-words in the first episode alone by one count, plus asshole, bitch, bastard and prick.

Sex and nudity

Moderate

No sex scenes or nudity shown, but a girl is coerced into a topless video (she stays covered on screen). A pregnant teen gives birth in a school bathroom, rumors about sex and porn circulate, and teens have crushes.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

Moderate

Some characters drink and smoke cigarettes. An infected student is injected with drugs in an attempt to reverse the virus. No recreational drug use.

Scary or intense scenes

Strong

Sustained terror as teens are trapped in classrooms with zombies at the door. Many students and several parents are bitten and die on screen, a bullied girl stands at a roof's edge ready to jump, and an official takes his own life.

Worth talking about

The virus is created by a father who wanted his bullied son to fight back. How does the show connect bullying to what goes wrong, and what could adults at the school have done differently?
