Predator: Killer of Killers: parents' guide
Best for ages 16 and up. Rated R for strong bloody violence, some gore and language.
A relentlessly violent animated action anthology for older teens who already like the Predator films. Three warriors from different eras, a Viking mother, a samurai and a World War II pilot, each face an alien hunter before meeting in a final arena. The R is mainly for violence: beheadings, people sliced in half with entrails visible, an arrow in an eye, and fields of bodies, often in slow motion. Children witness killings and take part in them, and a child is among the dead. Language includes two f-words and several s-words. There is no sex, drinking or drugs. Best for 16 and up.
What's in it
Violence
StrongConstant and gory: decapitations, severed limbs, bodies cut in half with entrails hanging out, a man set on fire, an arrow in an eye, whole villages slaughtered, and planes shot down, much of it in lingering slow motion.
Language
ModeratePlugged In counted two f-words and about seven s-words, plus 'ass,' 'bitch,' 'bastard,' 'damn' and 'hell,' a slur for the French, and God's name misused five times.
Sex and nudity
NoneNone. The only nod to romance is an insult about a woman's looks; there is no kissing, nudity or sexual content.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
NoneNone. Reviewers report no drinking, smoking or drug use in any of the three stories or the finale.
Scary or intense scenes
StrongSustained menace as nearly invisible alien hunters stalk and pick off warriors one by one, with gruesome kills, a beast swallowing a man whole, near drownings, and a flashback of a girl made to kill her own father.
Sensitive topics
- Death of a child
- Death of a parent
Worth talking about
Each hero starts out driven by revenge or pride. Talk about what revenge costs them, and why they only survive once they work together.
