Marty Supreme: parents' guide

16+our pick

Best for ages 16 and up. Rated R for language throughout, sexual content, some violent content/bloody images and nudity.

A frantic, foul-mouthed comic drama for older teens and adults about a 1950s New York table-tennis hustler who lies, steals and schemes his way toward a world title. Language is constant, with about 85 f-words, an N-word and antisemitic slurs. Marty has several brief sex scenes, including with married women and one implied oral sex moment, and bares his backside. Violence comes in bursts: a deadly shootout, a stabbing, a bloody arm injury and a threat against a pregnant woman. Drinking is social, and characters smoke. The sex scenes and slurs push this to 16 and up.

Moderate

Worth talking about

Marty is charismatic but lies to and uses nearly everyone around him. Talk about whether ambition excuses how he treats people, and why audiences root for him anyway.
