Delicious in Dungeon: parents' guide

14+our pick

Best for ages 14 and up. Rated TV-MA.

A quirky fantasy cooking adventure for teens: a party of adventurers races through a monster-filled dungeon to rescue a sister swallowed by a dragon, cooking and eating the creatures they kill along the way. Many episodes are gentle and funny, but the violence includes bloody battles, a severed leg, a skeleton recovered from a dragon's belly and a monster attack that kills several people (death can be reversed in this world). A late flashback hints at accidental cannibalism. Brief partial nudity and forbidden dark magic also feature. It carries a TV-MA rating, though swearing is light. Fine for most fantasy-loving 14-year-olds.

What's in it

Violence

Moderate

Constant monster fights with swords and magic, and creatures are gutted and butchered for food on screen. Later episodes get bloodier: a character loses a leg, blood sprays, people are drowned, and a monster kills most of two adventuring parties before they are revived.

Language

Mild

Light. One reviewer counted a single 'ass,' one 'hell' and one misuse of God's name in the first episode. Elsewhere expect put-downs, threats like 'Kill them all,' and crude jokes about vomiting and diarrhea.

Sex and nudity

Mild

No sex. Brief partial nudity, including a naked figure hugging herself to cover up in the opening credits and some bathing; Netflix cites nudity in its rating and the UK ratings board notes some sexual images.

Drinking, drugs and smoking

Mild

Adults drink and gamble in a tavern in brief scenes, and a dwarf cooks with sweet sake. No drug use or drunkenness to speak of.

Scary or intense scenes

Moderate

Grotesque monsters, man-eating plants, a corpse inside a plant and a skeleton pulled from a dragon. Forbidden magic revives someone in an unsettling form, a nightmare creature preys on fears, orcs kill nearly everyone in a tavern, and a dwarf's flashback hints he unknowingly ate a slain friend.

Worth talking about

Marcille breaks a serious magical taboo to save someone she loves, and her friends disagree about whether she was right. When, if ever, is breaking a rule justified?
