Baby Reindeer: parents' guide
Best for ages 18 and up. Rated TV-MA.
An intense, adults-only drama about stalking and sexual abuse, based on its creator's real experience. A struggling comedian is hounded for years by a woman he once showed kindness to, and the series digs into his past, including being groomed, drugged and raped by an older man in the industry, which is shown on screen in one episode. Expect sex scenes with nudity, frequent f-words, hard drug use and a violent attack on the main character. It treats trauma seriously and has been widely praised, but the content is graphic and distressing, which is why we suggest 18.
What's in it
Violence
StrongSexual violence: an older mentor drugs and rapes the main character on screen, and an assault while he is unconscious is implied. The stalker gropes him, rips out a chunk of a woman's hair, and smashes a glass into his face; he hits her back.
Language
StrongFrequent strong language. Plugged In counted seven f-words in the first episode and about 30 in the fourth, plus s-words and British terms like 'twat' and 'wanker.' The stalker also hurls transphobic and xenophobic insults.
Sex and nudity
StrongSeveral sex scenes with men and women, with bare breasts and a naked backside, plus a scene of the main character masturbating to gay pornography. Frank talk about genitals, condoms and sex toys runs throughout.
Drinking, drugs and smoking
StrongThe main character is shown taking cocaine, crack, meth, heroin and LSD, drugs pushed on him by his abuser, and is given GHB without consent. Later, his flatmates throw drug-fueled parties. He works in a pub, and drinking is constant.
Scary or intense scenes
StrongThe stalking is relentless and menacing, with endless messages, threats and ambushes, and the abuse episode is deeply disturbing. The main character's shame, panic attacks and self-destructive choices are portrayed with raw intensity.

Worth talking about
Donny struggles to report what happened to him and blames himself. Why do survivors of abuse, especially men, often stay silent, and what kind of response would help them speak up?
